Women in Senegal Learning About the Natural Family Planning Option CycleBeads

CycleBeads are included as a part of the Global Health Innovation Insight Series.  The Global Health Innovation Project at Stanford University series is intended to develop tools and materials that innovators can use to increase their effectiveness in tackling common business-related issues in low resource settings.  The Insight Series looks at companies and products who have navigated these situations and are willing to share their learnings with others.

A number of the issues that we have faced with introducing CycleBeads over the past 10 years, and that are relevant to other innovative health products, are described in these articles. These issues include:

  • How to get momentum behind a simple natural family planning method when there are powerful stakeholders and significant resources already invested by pharmaceutical and other healthcare companies.
  • The importance of making this natural family planning method available in all countries, not just in low-resource settings.
  • How to balance between growing big quickly and sustainable growth.

The articles are probably of most interest to other companies and products working in challenging situations, but they may also be interesting to anyone who wants to know more about the work that we have done over the past 10 years to make this simple, natural family planning method widely available to the millions of women who can benefit from it.

All of the articles included in the Global Health Innovation Insight Series including the ones which feature CycleBeads, can be found here.
